My heart goes out to Christian recoding artist Steven Curtis Chapman and his family in the loss of their 5 year old daughter. She was struck by her older brother’s car while pulling out of the driveway.

I normally do not blog about news events but this hit home with me beyond the fact that I have a daughter.I guess when I step back and try to analyze it I don’t completely understand how something like this could happen.

I am a Christian and I do know that the Lord works in mysterious ways and his plan for us doesn’t always play out as we had envisioned it. It’s just hard to comprehend that a guy who has spent his life praising the lord and spreading God’s love could have his “Cinderella” taken away from him. I cannot even fathom the thought of pain he and his family are going through and pray that they find peace in this time of loss.

Steven recently wrote a book about his daughter entitled “Cinderella; The love of a daddy and his princess”. He also wrote a song about his daughter entitled Cinderella and the lyrics to the song are as follows:

The weight of the world on my shoulders

It’s been a long day

She says he’s a nice guy and I’d be impressed
She wants to know if I approve of her dress
She says, “Dad, the prom is just one week away

She will be gone

Well, she came home today with a ring on her hand
Just glowing and telling us all they had planned
She says, “Dad, the wedding’s still six months away
But I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?”

Although my love for Lia cannot be denied, this event was a wake-up call to realize that every moment with her is a blessing. Regardless on how much my Cinderella will test my patience I will reflect on this ‘Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight, and she’ll be gone’
